Amorgos is connected to Piraeus and other Aegean ports. Conventional ferries make the route "Piraeus - Amorgos" in approximately 9.5 hours, while high-speed ferries take about 6.5 hours. There are also connections from the port of Rafina. Connections are also available from the island's two ports (Aegiali, Katapola).

The Island of Amorgos

The capital of Amorgos, Chora, is located almost in the center of the island and is its main town. Its position was strategically chosen to remain hidden from the sea and pirates. Its neighborhoods, such as Katapola, are about 5 kilometers away. From the first moment, it will charm you with its nobility, rare architecture, and numerous churches. Windmills in the area of Trullos will tempt you to stop at the edge of the road and photograph them. Cobbled streets, white houses, and courtyards fragrant with herbs. On the main street with its old cobblestones, you will find most of the town's shops. Taverns, ouzeris, gift shops, all housed in traditional buildings decorated with care, add another touch to the beauty of Chora. Aegiali is the second port of Amorgos. Along its beautiful beach, you will find many beach bars and taverns, and it is here that most young people gather, as the island’s camping site is located here. Perched on the mountain behind Aegiali are three beautiful villages: Tholaria, Langada, and Potamos. In all of them, you will find well-kept restaurants and bars. Visit them at sunset, and the view will reward you! At 300 meters from the sea, on the mountain of Prophet Elias, stands a small marvel of human nature: the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa. Visible only from the sea, it is a unique creation of human will against the elements. Built in the 10th century, it is one of the most important religious landmarks in Greece.

Beaches of Amorgos

The azure waters of Amorgos, the cliffs that create small hideaways, and the vastness of the Aegean compose a unique whole. Few of them are organized beaches, while most are accessible either on foot or by small boat. Agia Anna is the beach featured in the movie "The Big Blue" and the most popular on the island with its two beautiful coves. The beach has small pebbles, rocks, and caves, with crystal-clear waters ideal for snorkeling. South of the island, following the road to Arkesini, you will find one of the most beautiful beaches of Amorgos with transparent waters and fine pebbles. When you reach the village of Kamarion, 2 km away, head towards the beach of Mourou. The beach of Aegiali is the largest sandy beach on the island. Ideal for active visitors as you will find many beach bars and taverns. At the end of the beach begins the path that leads to the secluded beach of Levrossos. Finally, Kalotaritissa Bay is located at the southernmost point of the island. It is an organized sandy beach with beach bars and azure waters. From there, boats also depart for the beautiful beach of Gramvousa, with its white sand and emerald green waters.

Amorgos is undoubtedly an island of contrasts. On one hand, the mountains, and on the other, steep slopes that lead to fairytale beaches with crystal-clear waters. The abrupt changes in the landscape captivate the visitor, generating a plethora of pleasant and intense emotions. The island, with its intense Cycladic color and its traditional character preserved untouched by time, will impress you mainly because here, the old meets the new harmoniously without one distorting the other!
